You may think that moisturizing is something that only concerns people with dry skin. Yet, a hydrated complexion is just as important as a hydrated body. Our body needs proper hydration to look and be healthy and of course the same applies to our skin!
Hydrate now!
One of the best ways to keep your skin hydrated is to make sure you have chosen the right products. Although you can easily pick any formula from the cosmetics store or your neighborhood pharmacy, it is important to also ask your pharmacist by giving a complete description of your skin and its needs.
The Top Moisturizers
Hyaluronic acid has the ability to retain 1,000 times its weight in water. As a powerful moisturizing agent, it acts like a sponge that absorbs water and “locks” it into the skin. The result? Hydrated skin that looks many years younger.
Glycerin, which also acts as a moisturizing ingredient, attracts and retains moisture on the skin’s surface. This skin-replenishing ingredient is used in a multitude of moisturizing products, leaving skin soft and radiant.
Most essential oils can be quickly absorbed by the skin, providing abundant hydration and softness. Some of the most popular ones are argan oil, jojoba, avocado, calendula and many others.
Unlike other moisturizing ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, panthenol has the added benefit of acting as an emollient ingredient as well. On the one hand, it attracts and binds moisture to the skin, while on the other hand it “seals” annoying cracks.
The 6 steps for perfect hydration
- Find the moisturizing cream that suits your skin type.
- Apply sunscreen daily, throughout the year. Use sunscreen with SPF30 or higher. Apply every two hours, after swimming or sweating.
- Regular cleansing. Wash your face daily. Use warm (not hot) water and a gentle facial cleanser.
- In the bathroom use a gentle shower gel with moisturizing cream. Rinse well. Limit your shower to once a day and no more than 5 to 10 minutes.
- Apply moisturizing cream while your skin is still damp. After bathing or showering, pat your body dry with a towel. Then apply the moisturizing cream to “trap” water in your skin. Depending on your skin type, you may want to apply your moisturizing cream 2-3 times a day.
- Moisturize your hands every time you wash them. Although we often neglect them, our hands have greater exposure to irritants than any other part of the body.
